Grade 8-12 Leadership Training & Outdoor Education

Through leadership training, outdoor retreats and travel, Fraser Academy students have many opportunities to discover that they are capable, independent individuals.

Leadership training
Leadership courses provide a valuable opportunity to learn lifelong skills such as decision-making, communication, community service and teamwork. The leadership group also organizes many of our school’s “Spirit Days” activities that involve the younger students. Some of the recent events include pie-eating contests and “Foam Friday,” which involved finger-painting with shaving cream, whipped-cream faces and shaving-cream tower contests.

Outdoor Education
Many students choose this alternative to PE for the chance to experience outdoor activities such as kayaking, rock climbing, orienteering, hiking, tennis and swimming.

First Aid training
All grade 11 students receive standard level first aid certification from St. John Ambulance.

Overnight Retreats
Each year, students from grades seven through 12 head out on overnight retreats of varying lengths—such as to Big Bar Ranch in the Cariboo—for experiential, exciting and engaging programs that raise self-awareness, foster personal growth and encourage teamwork.

Grade 11 & 12 Spring Break Journey
Students in our two senior grades take a trip over spring break that is tied into the social studies curriculum and/or experiential learning. Past trips have included Eastern Europe, Western Europe, Italy, Russia and Tall Ship sailing in the Caribbean. These have all been extraordinary opportunities for students to develop teamwork and leadership skills, and to practice self-advocacy.
