A host of electives round out the Fraser Academy Jr School students’ academic classes and a daily one-to-one lesson with a certified OG tutor
Grade 1-5 students:
- Have one block of PE each day
- Take Music and Drama with specialist teachers on one day of the school’s two-day rotation, participate in an art workshop with a local artist
- Otherwise do Art and other electives with the classroom teacher.

Grade 6 students:
- Have one block of PE each day
- Take Art, Music, Information Technology and Technology Education with specialist teachers on one day of our two-day rotation.
Grade 7 students:
- Have a double block of PE every other day for the full school year
- Participate in Outdoor Education Days to experience such sports as sailing, kayaking, cycling, indoor rock-climbing, swimming and hiking
- Select two of three electives—Art, Music, Drama—which they have for the full year on alternating days
- Choose three of five additional electives, each for one term (see descriptions below).
In this vigorous course, students engage in activities to develop critical-thinking skills, including analysis, synthesis, extrapolation, evaluation, cooperation and collaboration.
Themes and topics include anthropology, current events, societal issues, volunteerism, science, ecology and the environment, as well as design and art.
Students learn the basics of nutrition, cooking and food technologies in this introductory course, developing practical abilities on both a domestic and industry scale.
Themes and topics include healthy eating, food safety and sanitation, food familiarity, food preparation techniques, kitchen equipment, measurements and foods from around the world.
This course provides opportunities for students to perceive, create and communicate through textiles.
Themes and topics include textile and printing techniques, stitching and surface decoration on paper and fabric, 2D media development and design, observational drawing skills, textile manufacturing and retailing, fibres and fabrics, and the science of textile development.
Students acquire both technological information literacy and computer skills during this course, as well as critically reflect on IT’s role in society.
Themes and topics include keyboarding, networking, communication, MS Office, animation, Internet research, Adobe Photoshop, Macromedia Flash and Multimedia.
During this course, students acquire a specific set of skills with regards to hand tools, power tools, drafting and design. There is an emphasis on shop safety and the appropriate precautionary measures associated with power tools.
Themes and topics include safety, tool identification, measurement, structures, vehicles, toys, furniture and joinery.
